IN CASE OF DIRE EMERGENCY for the
Islands
Delivery of Food and Fuel to the
Hawaiian Islands
CRITICAL information from the former State
Legislator who is a Business Person:
FOOD & FUEL: If there was a major catastrophe
in the Mainland—e.g., if one or more U.S. cities suffered
a major incident (perhaps especially if it was on the West
Coast)—then there could be a 7 to 10 DAY SHORT TERM
PERIOD OF POSSIBLY NO FOOD AND FUEL IN THE ISLANDS. BUT,
Maui would also have access to another large supply of food
and fuel available on Oahu.
a. If necessary, an AIRCRAFT CARRIER would load up
food and fuel and deliver it to all the Hawaiian Islands.
FOOD: In a time of emergency FOOD shortage,
within a 3 to 7 day period major ocean freight line carrier
ships would deliver food to Maui and all other Neighbor
Islands.
He said that aside from the remote possibility of a major
incident in the islands, the ONLY way the islands would
not be provided emergency food would be if there is no way
to fly in planes to the islands.
He said:
“MAUI has a 3 to 5 day supply of meats, perishables,
and vegetables.” But he added that Maui would
also have access to another large supply of food available
on Oahu. He felt there is probably in the range
of 2 weeks to 30 days supply of all foods, dry goods, and
other items available on or to Maui including especially a
large supply of potentially available canned, frozen foods,
and dry goods that are primarily located in Oahu and could
be transported to Maui.
FUEL & ENERGY: It is little known that
there are TREMENDOUS fuel reserves in Oahu in underground
oil reservoirs built inside the mountains in World War
2.
In a time of emergency FUEL shortage, BARGES from Oahu with
fuel would come to Kahului, Maui and all other Neighbor
Islands.
He said the State of Hawaii Department of Business, Economic
Development & Tourism (DBEDT) can give additional consultation
to help EF better understand what is in place in Hawaii for
emergency response to shortages in food and fuel on Maui
and the other islands.
